Cancelling Blog Hops

Hi All,

For awhile, I've been watching the blog hop market and the way things are working and I've decided to stop doing blog hops for a bit. Meaning the Fantasy, Romance Your Hero, and Some Like it Hop blog hops are now cancelled. The others are only going on because I've collected donations for the grand prizes.

Right now, what I see in blog hops are a lot of work, people spamming, over posting, and people cutting and pasting comments. I'd rather us all find a way to read and share books that don't require 4857 rafflecopter steps. I'd rather us talk about what books we like, rather than beg readers to buy our books, and as readers, beg for free books.

I know that this will upset some people, but there are hops weekly with others. Hops that you can join. I'd rather us all spend time not complaining about other hoppers, bloggers, and readers. I'd rather spend time doing what I love in writing and reading, not dealing with people complaining.

So yes, I'm cancelling the blog hops after the Sweaty Nights hops. The next three hops we have I will put my full 100% in to make them amazing, but after that, we're taking a break. I'll come back later if I see a void, but right now, they aren't working.

I wish everyone an amazing time writing and reading, but I don't want our hops to become spam and over promotion.

Thank you for a wonderful year and a half.

Carrie Ann

Thanks for letting me participate. I was able to find new authors to read and some who actually asked to appear on my blog.

You are awesome Carrie Ann!! I totally get where you're coming from. I had to stop doing a lot of the hops because there were just SO many stops on the tour in such a short amount of time. It felt kind of rushed and I agree with you on wanting to take it easy and to read and write about new books and authors!

Thanks for all your hard work and it's all appreciated. Totally understand your decision. It's too time-consuming.

The blog hops have been amazing for me and I'm grateful for all your hard work. But I will also be grateful for the break as I want to spend less time in "promoting" this year (which has fully been my choice to do this) and more time writing.

I have to agree with the ladies above in saying that you do a fabulous job! I can only imagine how much work it takes to do them. Thank you for all of it, Carrie Ann!

Carrie,

Thanks for all your hard work putting them together. I'm so glad I got to participate. I can only imagine it's also an energy drain when you could be writing!

Thank you so much for everything Carrie Ann. I know it has to be a tremendous amount of work and I appreciate all of your time! I know my sales have increased with your help. I wish you all the best for your writing, here we are in the middle of "snow-geddon" lol... so hard to write with kids home but I'm going to try! LMAO... But wanted to send you my love and thanks!

Thanks for all you've done, Carrie Ann. I can't imagine the work that must go into putting together a hop. I've only participated in a few but they were all pretty awesome. I think a break may make readers and writers value them more should you decide to do anything in the future. Thank you again. Your hops always rock!!!

Carrie Ann,

Thanks for all the hard work you've done to help promote your fellow authors. I have very much enjoyed the traffic to my blog, and have caught a few new readers.

Another way for your blog authors to get site traffic is Night Owl Reviews Web Hunts. I am not affiliated with NOR, but I've done several of the web hunts, and gotten some new readers that way.

I can see why you'd want to give up all this work, and focus on your own writing. Best wishes on that,
Cathryn Cade

Carrie Ann no one here blames you for stepping back and taking a break. I can't imagine all the hard work you have to do, mostly by yourself, to put these hops together. And you have done a terrific job! It's been fun! Take care.

You are amazing and very talented! Thank you for everything that you do and have done. I appreciate you! Best wishes and many blessings to you! You have a fantastic night!

Carrie Ann I understand. I loved the hops up until the last two I've done. I, too, started noticing the same comments being made from several entrants that one didn't make sense with my post and two seeing generic responses appearing on other sponsors. Those hoppers were looking for something for nothing and would probably never buy any of my books. So, take a break and see if it settles down and maybe start back. You do a wonderful job and maybe take this time to write more wonderful stories!:>)

Carrie! First I want to thank you for having the amazing hope you did! They were fun, great for authors, fab for readers and bloggers! You worked your booty off. I know we don't know each other personally but I wanted to let you know that you were and still are amazing with putting the time and effort!

It's sad people have to ruin it! I admire you for stopping them for the fact that the people who aren't playing fair ruin it for other people!!!

YOU ROCK AND ALWAYS WILL.....

AS ONE CARRIE TO ANOTHER GOOD LUCK AND YOUR FABULOUS!!!!!

I've had only positive feedback. I think asking a question in the author's post prevents people cutting and pasting comments.
My followers have tripled. I'm sorry this has happened to spoil this for everyone, but some people are never happy. We all appreciate the work and effort you put in to this and I for one will miss the hops. I loved the interaction.
Thank you for all your hard work.

Carrie - I only joined up a couple of months ago when one of my fav authors mentioned blog hops. I didn't - and still don't- really understand the point of them. maybe its because I’ve come in late and all I could see were endless spam type posts :( I’m primarily a reader, love my kindle and love looking for new authors in the genres I favour, mainly paranormal, romance, erotica. I’ve found some great ones via one of the sites I review for and kindle free books where I’ve bought rest of several series after getting first one free. I add my reviews to amazon .com and uk, goodreads, facebook and my artsite and to a paranormal site when they fit criteria. I've been pleased with how many readers enjoy and have bought books I rate highly - that was my intention on reviewing (and a great ego boost) as I use reviews when I’m buying, and wanted to give something back. Its also meant I can now get some books for free and when you read 8-12 hours a day and are a quick reader that helps the pocket. |
I can understand that hops take up lots of time - as I said I still don't really understand how they work. Time's always short – and I guess we all need to prioritise and spend it where it has best results. As a reader I've not found new authors via the few blog hops I've tried to get to grips with but maybe it works for those more persistent than me....I'm short on patience when I don't see a result fairly quickly and for a reader there are so many better ways to find new works. I'd rather spend time on amazon searches than things I don't understand when I want books. Best of luck for the future with your writing

Thanks for all you've done Carrie Anne. I know it was a tough choice but probably a good one. For probably similar reasons, when I've been participating on these hops and similar events, I've been experimenting with them, giving away charitable gifts, often adopting endangered species in the name of the winners. A number of participants really did appreciate this different style, which warmed my heart. At least, I got to do good, while participating. Thanks again. Good luck with your writing. Sabrina.

I am participating for the first time in the three you are going to have and can't wait. I'm sorry to see them go I enjoyed hopping around visiting authors that other wise I might not have known about. But I do understand and have seen what you are talking about. I hope they do come back in the future. They have been so much fun. and thank you for all the fun we had with them.

Carrie Ann. Thank you for all your hard work for all these blog hops. I know that it can't have been easy, either to do the hops or to make the decision to stop them for now. I appreciate all the help that you have given me through the hops and through your personal advice. You are such a sweet, giving person. Maybe we can start a book club. We could all buy and read one book each month (chosen from all those who enter there book by raffle copter) that we read, review (on Goodreads and BN not Amazon) and tweet about. I don't think I could do it more than one per month and wouldn't want to commit to more than one. Everyone who enters a book to be read would have to commit to reading and reviewing it. Anyway just an idea. I'm good at ideas but not at organizing and don't know how to use raffle copter. I would propose that your latest Holiday book be the first one as a thank you for all the work you've done.

Thanks so much for organizing the hops, Carrie Ann. I know they're a lot of work, and you've done a fabulous job of managing them. I've met a lot of fun readers through them and learned about (and bought!) a bunch of great books from authors I'd have never known about and discovered bloggers I'd never have found otherwise. So I think they've been great. All that said, I can see why you want a break. If the hops come back (perhaps a once-quarterly or twice-yearly thing?), I'll be there. Thank you so much for helping so many people connect up and learn about each other. You're the best! :)

Carrie, with your writing career really taking off, this is probably a good decision. I wondered how you could manage to do it. They are a lot of work, but I personally benefitted from it, so I thank you. Got to meet some great people, not only authors, but some readers.

I totally understand, and look forward to doing anything, even on a limited basis, with you in the future. Just let me know.

Thanks Carrie Ann, I only did a couple of your hops, they were fun. I do agree with you about the way the hops were going. I find the same people enter the hops not to support the author, not to buy books, but to get as many books are they can free, and then trash the author. As an author and avid reader, I don't mind paying a few dollars for any book I want to read. I know it takes a lot of hard work and money to put out a good book for the readers. So, though I've hosted quite a few hops, I've never entered one, neither have I ever down-loaded a free book. But like everything else, people can be abusive and destroy a good thing.

I'm so sorry to hear this, Carrie Ann, but I do understand how you feel. I have really enjoyed participating in your blog hops and have always sold books during each one. They were a great way to get people to my blog and learn about my books. Thanks so much for all your hard work and I wish you the best with your future plans.

Susana Ellis said...

I've participated in the last two, and I don't know if my book sales have increased (it's only been out two months), but I have seen my numbers of blog followers increase each time. True, many people were just surfing around to get something free. I did that myself the first time when I was trying to understand what a blog hop was all about. But if only a few people like what they see of my blog and decide to follow it, I have a chance of reaching them later.

And I've been discovering that it's really, really hard to find blog followers, what with all the blogs out there!

I participated in another blog in late January, and was very disappointed because it was set up in such a way as to focus most of the attention on the organizer's blog. Which is why I decided to stick with yours.

I know it's a lot of work for you and like everyone else I understand why you want to take a break. But you must realize that your blog hops have helped a lot of new authors find readers (and vice versa). Don't let the few bad apples spoil it for everyone!

Hi Carrie,
I realize I am coming late to the conversation here. Just want to say that you have done an extraordinary job in this with helping so many Indie Authors promote and link up. Thank you. Thank You. Thank You. I've gained followers and readers through joining your hops. But I do understand your reasons for stopping them for a time, and I agree, we don't wish to over promote and distance readers and FB connections.

Thank you again for all your hard work and effort. We will be in touch., I'm sure.
